about

Skellums Wales, UK

Skellums was formed because there was nothing else left to do.

Underneath all the dirty guitars and drums, there lives a pop song. Skellums believe, that as long as you have a melody, you can get away with all sorts.

Track Name: The Avenue
As the shadows grow long on the avenue,
packs of kids howl at the moon.
As the high rises swallow the sun,
teenagers throttle their bottles.
As the family cars all turn to rust,
the neighbours are fighting next door.
As angry voices float on the breeze
dad lashes out at ones he adores.

This is where we cut our teeth.
This is where we grazed our knees.
Battles won and lost.
Black eyes and tear stained teeth.
All along the avenue.

Sadie, at number three, she was a lover.
A hopeless romantic who jumped from man to man.
She lived a life of laddered tights,
wood chip walls and empty cans.
A young princess in this very cul-de-sac.
Betrothed to far, far too many men.
As the young prince cries in his bed,
she's downstairs kissing a frog again.

This is where we cut our teeth.
This is where we grazed our knees.
Battles won and lost.
Black eyes and tear stained teeth.
All along the avenue.

This is our kingdom.
Its our home.
The place where we were born,
and will grow old.
We're statues stuck in glue.
All along the avenue.

This is where we cut our teeth.
This is where we grazed our knees.
Battles won and lost.
Black eyes and tear stained teeth.
This is where we dreamed our dreams.
Jumpers for goal posts.
Stung by bees.
Battles won and lost.
With black eyes and tear stained cheeks.

As the shadows grow long on the avenue,
packs of kids howl at the moon.
As the high rises swallow the sun,
teenagers throttle their bottles.
Track Name: Monsters
All these stories start the same,
a council estate boy with boredom on the brain.
Bad choice, bad choice, left a wreck,
with bad habits, rent and debt.
I made the same mistakes my mates were making,
took some stuff not meant for taking,
faked being happy for a while.
Glued on a smile.
I was the master of the frown.
All I'm saying is when I met you, I was down.

The voices in my head,
don't talk to me no more,
and the monsters under my bed walked out the door.
The nightmares when I sleep,
don't wake me any more.
And the monsters under my bed have walked out the door.

All these stories start the same.
A council estate boy who lived up to the cliche.
Week in, week out, I confess;
a stranger to my family, head and clothes a mess.
My day began at night,
I was in at the deep end, drowning, gasping for air.
Good timing.
I am the cloud you are the silver lining.

The voices in my head,
don't talk to me no more,
and the monsters under my bed walked out the door.
The nightmares when I sleep,
don't wake me any more.
And the monsters under my bed have walked out the door.

It took a bird to turn it round.
Picked up all the pieces of a life turned upside down.
All the hopeless thoughts, delete them.
All the demons, helped me beat them.
One soul can flip it round.
Fix fractured parts of knackered hearts.
Make each day seem ok.
Chase the monsters away.

The voices in my head,
don't talk to me no more,
and the monsters under my bed walked out the door.
The nightmares when I sleep,
don't wake me any more.
And the monsters under my bed have walked out the door.
Track Name: Growing Old
Listen love, no one mistakes you for sisters,
just because you can fit into your daughters clothes.
So Listen good, I can see them lines are getting longer,
you're not getting any younger so let it go.

They told you " life begins at forty."
You've give it a chance.
Do you need to get on tables to dance?

Fake boobs, fake hair and make up.
I know nothing about old age.
But you're a grandmother now for heavens sake.
Fake eyelashes, stilettos, what would your children say?
You're a grandmother now for fucks sake.

Listen mate, no one thinks that you're Hugh Hefner,
just because you've ensnared a girl a third your age.
Listen mug, she only wants you for your wallet,
thats why she's feigning love. To beat the minimum wage.

They told you "Life begins at sixty."
Thats what you were told.
Another young girls soul bought and sold.

Fake boobs, fake hair and make up.
A girl a third your age.
You're a grandfather now for heavens sake.
Fake eyelashes, stilettos, what would your children say?
You're a grandfather now for fucks sake.

You've changed a million nappies.
Cleaned a thousand home.
A life spent looking after everybody else.
But number one.
You've raised all of your babies.
Beautiful daughters. Fine sons.
now your time's your own.

Fake boobs, fake hair and make up.
For your age you look great.
You're a grandmother now and that's ok.
Fake eyelashes, stilettos,
but she makes you feel great.
You're a grandfather now and that's ok.
Track Name: We Are One
A message from the bottom rung.
A clarion call to all the sad faces that I'm just dying to know.
Are you alone?
I look at all we've done.
Extinguished friendships like cigarette stumps.
I need you to know you're not alone.

We are one.

With those who drink until tomorrow to forget about today.
With those who dream of sleep but can only lie awake.
With lost souls gagging to be found.
Can't keep a good heart down.
We are one.
With all those children who were robbed of their youth.
With all those broken souls trapped in self abuse.
If you are lost you can be found.
Cant keep a good heart down.

A message to the lonely ones.
A beacon of hope shining out to desolate places,
that I'm not afraid to go.
I've already been there.
But what's done ain't done.
Those extinguished relationships can once again glow.
So glow.
You're not alone, just so you know.

We are one.

With those who drink until tomorrow to forget about today.
With those who dream of sleep but can only lie awake.
With lost souls gagging to be found.
Can't keep a good heart down.

People harm or build or dream.
They say you're always one of the three.
I swear to tell the whole truth.
We are one.

With all those homeless making their bed on the street.
With mothers struggling. Trying to make ends meet.
With the gambler who's chips are always down.
Cant keep a good heart down.

If you are lost you will be found.
You Will Be Found.
